Challenges
The existing application had become increasingly complex as new features were introduced over time. Navigation lacked consistency, payment and invoicing flows required unnecessary steps and users often struggled to locate important information quickly.
Different user groups - from freelancers to growing businesses - also required a flexible experience without increasing cognitive load.
Objectives
The primary objective was to simplify core banking workflows while maintaining the platform's extensive functionality. The redesign focused on improving navigation, increasing task completion, reducing user frustration and creating scalable design patterns that could support future product development.
Process
Research & Analysis
The project began with qualitative interviews, behavioral analysis, competitor benchmarking, and existing product research to identify the most critical pain points. Particular attention was given to transaction flows, invoicing, payments, and overall navigation.
Strategy
Research insights were translated into customer journey maps, simplified information architecture, and a prioritization framework that focused on the most frequently used banking tasks. The goal was to reduce complexity while preserving powerful functionality for business users.
Ideation
Multiple wireframe concepts explored alternative navigation structures and interaction patterns. These concepts evolved into high-fidelity interfaces supported by reusable design components and a scalable design system.
Testing & Validation
Interactive prototypes were validated through usability testing and design reviews. Feedback from users and stakeholders informed several iterations before implementation, ensuring the redesigned experience addressed both usability and business requirements.
Final thoughts
The Holvi redesign demonstrated how thoughtful UX strategy can simplify complex financial products without reducing functionality. By combining user research, iterative design and scalable UI components, the project created a more intuitive mobile banking experience that better supports freelancers and small business owners.
